Analysis of the difference between ethylene oxide sterilization and radiation sterilization

Nowadays, science and technology are more and more developed, and many new things always open our eyes. Shuoshi is a modern company specializing in ethylene oxide preheating, analysis, design, installation and sales of ethylene oxide sterilizers. . The following Shuoshi technicians will discuss with us in detail what are the common types of disinfection and sterilization? What are the differences between them?
The ethylene oxide sterilization method is a method of sterilizing with ethylene oxide gas. It is a traditional sterilization method, which can be applied to sterilization of work clothes, medicines that are not resistant to heat sterilization, medical utensils, facilities, equipment, etc. The ethylene oxide sterilization system mainly has the following four important factors that mutually restrict the sterilization effect: humidity, temperature, gas concentration, and sterilization time.
Ethylene oxide has very strong penetration and diffusion ability, and its sterilization mechanism is mainly strong oxidation, so it has the characteristics of wide sterilization spectrum and strong sterilization ability, and has strong killing effect on microbial propagules and spores. . Although ethylene oxide has a pungent odor and toxicity at high concentrations, it is moderately toxic and generally volatilizes quickly without residual toxicity on the inner surface of the system. The procedure of sterilization with ethylene oxide gas is roughly as follows: place the sterilized items in a sterilizer, decompress and remove air, preheat, use mixed gas for ethylene oxide gas, and input the mixed gas under reduced pressure. Maintain a certain concentration, temperature and humidity, after a certain period of time, vacuum to remove ethylene oxide gas, and then send sterile air to replace the ethylene oxide gas until it is exhausted.
Radiation sterilization is a method of sterilization by radioactive isotopes and radiated g-rays. The radiation can directly ionize the molecules of organic compounds, generate free radicals that destroy normal radiation, and cause the decomposition of macromolecular compounds in microorganisms. The characteristics of radiation sterilization are that it does not increase the temperature of the sterilized product and has strong penetration. It is suitable for sterilization of heat-labile drugs, sterilization of medical devices, polymer materials, packaging materials, etc. The sterilization dose is generally 2.5×104GY. This method has been included in the 13th edition of "British Pharmacopoeia" (1998) and "Japanese Pharmacopoeia". Some enterprises in my country also use 60CO to sterilize certain traditional Chinese medicines and medical devices. Radiation sterilization requires high equipment costs, which may reduce the efficacy of certain drugs, produce toxic substances or heat-generating substances, and pay attention to safety precautions when using radiation sterilization.
